As a citizen of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, you’ve had to visit the Passport Office or the Election Commission Office at least once in your life. And places like the Ganabhaban, which is the official residence of the Prime Minister, and the National Parliament House are iconic landmarks known by everyone. Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar are the areas that host all these aforementioned important places, along with many other significant government institutions, offices, ministries, and hospitals.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar is a citadel that was designed by Louis I. Kahn, the world-renowned architect famous in Bangladesh for designing the National Parliament House, an architectural landmark of Bangladesh. The area hosts many significant institutions, including the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.
Agargaon also has many significant institutions, including the Liberation War Museum, Dhaka Shisu Mela, BCS Computer City (IDB Bhaban), National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR). The area is also a fantastic residential neighborhood, hosting various government quarters, offices, and private residences. NEIGHBORHOOD
Community
Easy access to numerous administrative facilities and it’s fantastic location in the city make Agargaon a very desirable place to live in. Although the area has the National Parliament House, Ganabhaban, the different complexes of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, and many other government offices, there are a lot of residential buildings available in the areas of Agargaon and Taltola. Housing in the area is quite affordable, especially in Taltola. You will also find a lot of government housing and quarters. Transportation
Since the areas of Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar play host to some important government offices, with many visitors coming in, the transportation network is very well developed. On one side of the National Parliament House is Manik Mia Avenue, the widest road in Dhaka city, and on the other side is Lake Road, where you’ll come across the Chandrima Uddan. The eastern side has Begum Rokeya Sarani, which has two offshoot roads that go through Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar; one is the Bir Uttam Khaled Avenue that passes the Dhaka International Trade Fair venue, and the other one is the Syed Mahbub Morshed Avenue. Both these roads are very busy, with heavy traffic. On the northern side is the 60 Feet Road which leads to Mirpur. On all these roads, there are numerous modes of transportation, including buses, CNG Auto-rickshaws, and private vehicles. This makes it very easy to travel to any part of Dhaka from here.
Educational Institutions
The areas of Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar have numerous quality educational institutions, the most famous of which are the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. There’s also the Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management (BIGM), which is affiliated with Dhaka University and offers postgraduate degrees. Notable schools in the area include Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Boys' High School, Agargaon Taltola Colony High School, and Agargaon Taltola Govt. Primary School.
Medical Institutions
The areas are home to some of the best government-owned medical facilities in the country. There’s also the Agargaon Jame Masjid, the Central Mosque in Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Chandrima Uddan Mosque, and many others. Followers of Hinduism can visit the Sri Sri Kali Mandir located inside the Agricultural University, as well as the Taltola Central Temple.
Nearby Areas
The areas of Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar are spread out across a large area. To the south, there’s Indira Road, Lalmatia, and Monipuripara. On the western side, areas such as Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Shyamoli are located. The old airport takes up much of the eastern side of the area. And to the north, there’s Kallyanpur and Shewrapara. Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar have great connectivity with all these areas.

Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar is an area that was meticulously planned. As a result, there are numerous places to visit, including the Chandrima Uddan, which is one of the most visited parks in Dhaka city. Food & Restaurant
One of the most popular restaurants in the area is the Zaytun Restaurant, located on Begum Rokeya Sarani, opposite to the IDB Bhaban. The entirety of the Air Force Museum can be viewed from the restaurant. Another hotspot for great food in the area is on 60 Feet Road, with many options available. The road features many restaurants, as well as noteworthy street food options.
Shopping
Although there aren’t many great shopping destinations in the area, Dhaka International Trade Fair, the country’s largest and most exciting trade fair, is hosted on the grounds next to the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC). It is not only a showcase of the country’s industrial might, but also features many shops featuring exotic goods from all over the world, including India, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Egypt, and many more countries.
