About Mirpur South
Covering an area of more than 58 square kilometers, Mirpur is home to more than 600,000 people. There are two major roads that connect Mirpur to the rest of Dhaka. One is Begum Rokeya Sarani, a straight road that cuts through the middle of Mirpur, and Mirpur Road, which is a road that goes from Mirpur to Old Dhaka. Sandwiched between these two roads is a massive chunk of Mirpur which can be referred to as Mirpur South. The areas included in Mirpur South are Taltola, Janata Housing, West Kafrul, West Shewrapara, West Kazipara, South Monipur, Monipur, some parts of Senpara Parbata, Borobag, Pirerbag, Shimultola, South Paikpara, Middle Paikpara, Ahmed Nagar, Shah Ali Bag, Mirpur-1, and Tolarbag. The area is home to many people, as it is a great place to live for middle and lower income people.This massive area is mostly residential, with some commercial and industrial zones mainly located adjacent to the two major roads in the area, as well as the two roads that cut through the area, which are Kamal Sarani (60 Feet Road) and Darus Salam Road. The area is well connected as a result of major roads on the northeastern and western side of the area, and also because of its proximity to Gabtoli.

Community
Mirpur South is the classic middle-class neighborhood and also one of Dhaka’s oldest. The two roads that go through the middle of the area, Darus Salam Road and 60 Feet Road, also have banks, offices, restaurants, and brand outlets. However, like other parts of Mirpur, these areas are also mostly residential. Most of the residential buildings are high density, which is perfect for an area with such high population density.
Transportation
One of the special features of Mirpur South is its superb connectivity to the rest of Dhaka. From here, there are bus routes that will take you to every major destination in Dhaka. Mirpur Road takes you from Mirpur South to areas such as Panthapath, Dhanmondi, New Market, Azimpur and beyond in the southward direction. Traveling in the opposite direction will take you to the Mirpur-10 Roundabout. Begum Rokeya Sarani is the other major road in the area which connects Mirpur South to areas such as Khamarbari, Monipuripara, Farmgate, Kawran Bazar, Tejgaon, Shahbag, Dhaka University, Gulistan, and Motijheel. There is also 60 Feet Road and Darus Salam Road cutting through the middle of Mirpur South. These two roads offer great connectivity inside Mirpur South. The area is also close to Shyamoli and Gabtoli, which are the gateways to the northern part of Bangladesh. Also, MRT Line-6 is being built on Begum Rokeya Sarani, with stops in Mirpur South. Completion of the route will result in easy access to many parts of Dhaka, including Uttara, Farmgate, Kawran Bazar, Shahbag, Dhaka University, and Motijheel. MRT Line-5 (Northern Route) is also slated for construction, with stops in Mirpur-1. This route will take you from Mirpur South to destinations such as Gulshan, Banani, and Bashundhara.
Educational Institutions
Mirpur South is home to numerous schools and colleges that are offering high-quality education to the large population of Mirpur south. Schools following both the National and British curriculum are available. Some of the more notable schools include Monipur High School and College in Monipur, and Methodist English Medium School in Mirpur-1.Numerous top-quality schools, colleges, and universities are located in nearby areas, such as Scholastica Mirpur, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), and MIST. There are also numerous universities to choose from in Mirpur East for those in the area who are seeking to pursue higher education. The most notable of them are Green University in Begum Rokeya Avenue, Darul Ihsan University in Mirpur-1, and European University of Bangladesh in Gabtoli.

There are numerous diagnostic centers and pharmacies in Mirpur South. The area also has a host of major healthcare facilities, such as Delta Hospital in Tolarbag, Selina General Hospital & Diagnostic Centre in Gabtoli, Kidney Foundation Hospital and Heart Foundation Hospital in Mirpur Road, opposite to Section-2. There are other nearby facilities such as EXIM Bank Hospital, MARKS Medical College & Hospital. There are also two Lazz Pharma branches in Mirpur South, one along Darus Salam Road and another in 60 feet Road.
Parks & Recreation
In Mirpur South, you will find some iconic landmarks of Dhaka city. Bangladesh National Zoo is located in Mirpur-1, and it is home to numerous animals and wildlife. Constructed in 1974, it is the largest zoo in Bangladesh and hosts around 10,000 visitors each day. Right beside the zoo is the National Botanical Garden of Bangladesh, which is home to over 50,000 species of plants. Another quirky site in Mirpur South is the Taka Museum, located on the first floor of Bangladesh Bank Training Academy. The museum displays numerous coins and banknotes from different historical periods of Bangladesh.

Religion is an important part of the lives of most residents of Mirpur South, which is why there are religious facilities for people of all religions in the area. Muslim residents will not face any difficulties finding mosques in the area, with there being at least one in every neighborhood. Masjid Al Kuwait Al Kabir in Mirpur-1 is one of the largest mosques in Dhaka. Hindu residents will find a While there aren’t any Buddhist temples in Mirpur South, there is the Shakyamuni Buddhist Temple in Mirpur-13. There are numerous churches for followers of different sects of Christianity in Mirpur East. The Methodist Church in Mirpur-1 and Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Borobag are some notable examples.

Mirpur South is a massive area, which means that it shares a border with numerous areas, and close proximity to many others. In the southwest, there’s Gabtoli, Kallyanpur, and Shyamoli. At the southern side of Mirpur South is Agargaon and Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, which is home to numerous ministries, government agencies, and research institutes. On the eastern side of Begum Rokeya Sarani, there’s Mirpur East, which includes significant portions of Senpara Parbata, Mirpur 14, East Monipur, East Kazipara, East Shewrapara, Ibrahimpur, and parts of Kafrul. To the north, there’s Mirpur Section-1 , Section-2, Section-6, Section-10. Because of how well connected Mirpur South is, areas like Mohammadpur, Lalmatia, Dhanmondi, Farmgate, Mohakhali, Banani, and even Gulshan don’t seem like they’re too far away.

If you’re looking for shopping malls, there’s Capital Tower Shopping Complex in Darus Salam Road, where you’ll find clothing, shoes, and all the other things that you’d expect at a market like this. There are also multiple markets spread across the area where you’ll find daily necessities, hardware stores, and electronics. The area is also home to quite a few super shops providing daily necessities, such as Daily Super Shop and Krishibid Super Shop on Begum Rokeya Sarani, Grace Super Shop on 60 Feet Road, and Shwapno in Mirpur-1.
