Wari was once one of the major hubs of Dhaka city. Not just that, this area is considered to be one of the prominent parts of Old Dhaka. The modernization of this place started off with the British era. The British significantly left their mark in Wari through their initial work of developments. In those days, Wari was a posh area full of affluent people. Its location lies at the edge of Puran Dhaka, which automatically makes this place a lively one as well. Throughout the centuries, Wari has been widely known for the presence of traditional businesses. At the moment, huge levels of residential and commercial developments are also going on and the entire area has been segregated into two halves – Old Wari and New Wari.

Wari is home to several religions. Although the area is muslim centric, but you will still witness people from various religions and cultures. There are churches for Christians and a famous Jai Kali Temple sited at the very edge of Wari. People of Hindu religion come here to worship their Goddess Kali and gather for other occasions and events. There are few mosques like Masjidun Noor, Wari Jame Masjid for muslims to observe their daily prayers. Overall, this place comprises all major religions.
Among the historical sites, Wari possesses one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Bangladesh. Even after hundreds of years, this place holds a very special place to the Christians and some people even visit this place considering it as a landmark of Wari.
Wari is one crucial part of the old town. Moreover, this place is connected to all the major areas anyone can think of. Kamlapur, Gopibag, Gulistan and Motijheel lie right on the north side of Wari. Railway communication is also easier since Kamlapur is not very far away from this place. Whereas, major areas like Dayaganj, Sutrapur and Narinda fall under the southern side of Wari. The eastern side faces Shamibag, Tikatuli, which are suitable for residential houses. On the west side, there are commercial places like Nawabpur and Bangshal.

There is versatility in delicacies available in the Wari area. Interestingly, the old town side is still renowned for biryani and other local foods. On the other hand, there are plenty of options for modern cuisines as well.
