“A little goes a long way” is a great way to create for yourself a little tiny little space in the house to call your very own. What do I mean? The day can take a toll on you in many ways. The stresses of work, school, training, and travel are real things that should be dealt with. Of course, each person will have their own way of handling it, but it is ideal to have a designated space for such a thing, a little space called a me corner.

Why do you need it?

Why do you need it?
A little Zen of your own

Stress relief is definitely at the forefront of reasons, but it can also function as a segue to being more productive for the rest of the day. Another reason is having something to call your very own, especially when sharing a house with other members. And really maintaining your me corner will definitely give you a sense of accomplishment that is sure to boost your self value and set a better mood.

How to put it together?

How to put it together?
Puzzling, but so very satisfying once done

You need a little bit of space in the house, not much, hopefully. Put a small table and a chair there and you’re pretty much set. Everything from there is customization, ranging from no additions, to putting an instrument that you like to fiddle with. The world is your oyster, but the me corner is your retreat.

What to think about?

What to think about?
Everything is about you

Think of the things you love that bring peace. The point of the me corner is really for you to unwind, though it does not have to be a quiet place. Some people find peace in symphonic music, the sound of water, a bookshelf; sounds appealing, doesn’t it? But there are those of us that unwind by listening to high tempo, even loud, music, while having coffee, and just leaning back. Your me corner should be specific to you, so think of this as an opportunity to really think about yourself and the various things in your life that provoke different emotions and sensations in you.

There is no going wrong

There is no ‘wrong’ in putting together a me corner. Your me corner can be wildly different from someone else’s and there is absolutely no pressure in putting yours together however works for you. Another important point, maintain the me corner. Keep it tidy, update the setting occasionally to keep things fresh. Don’t fall into the trap of going to your me corner feeling like just any other part of your daily schedule; it has to feel welcoming and like a relief when you get there.

Your me corner is exactly that – a corner for you. To unwind, to deliberate on the day, to forget the day, to prepare for the rest of your day… your me corner should appease you and not have anyone else’s input. So long as you keep it healthy, you’re doing well. And when you do finally have your me corner put together and sit down, let your concerns of the world melt away and find the peace that you so deserve.
