Whether you love air traveling or you just want to reach your destination fast without any hassle, chances are you might have visited several airports in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi airports offer numerous amenities and facilities to passengers who are traveling from one place to another. Also, each airport is unique and depicts the rich culture and heritage of each area. Apart from this, several airports in Bangladesh also have VIP lounges to relax while waiting for flights. With air travel increasing continuously and several new and affordable airlines launching regularly, the idea of air travel is becoming more and more popular among the general public. Having that said, here is everything you need to know about the 5 domestic airports in Bangladesh.

Barisal Airport

Location: Rahamatpur area of Babuganj Upazila
Destination route: Dhaka – Barishal
Airlines: Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Dhaka-Barishal), Novoair (Dhaka-Barishal), US-Bangla Airlines (Dhaka-Barishal)

Barishal airport right now is going through some huge upgrades and once completed this will become one of the most well-equipped and well-planned domestic airports in Bangladesh.

Jessore Airport

Location: Jashore city (7 km North)
Destination route: Jessore-Chittagong- Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar
Airlines: Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Jessore-Chittagong- Dhaka), Novoair (Dhaka-Jessore), US-Bangla Airlines (Dhaka-Jessore-Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram)
Cargo: Easy Fly Express (Jessore-Cox’s Bazar)

Initially, US-Bangla Airlines will offer 4 flights from Jessore to Cox’s Bazar on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (starting from 1st October 2021) and offer 3 flights from Jessore to Chattogram on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday (starting from 30th September 2021).

Jessore Airport is also used by Bangladesh Air Force, so the security here is top-notch. Besides, the airport has gone through some massive upgrades and the terminal building has been extended to facilitate the passengers. And a slew of other developments project has been proposed recently to make it one of the most advanced airports in Bangladesh.

Shah Makhdum Airport

Location: Rajshahi city (10 km North beside Rajshahi-Nowgon highway)
Destination route: Dhaka-Rajshahi
Airlines: Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Dhaka-Rajshahi), Novoair (Dhaka-Rajshahi), US-Bangla Airlines (Dhaka-Rajshahi)

Recently a luxurious resthouse has been constructed to better serve the passengers. Furthermore, there is also a plan to make Shah Makhdum an international airport.

Saidpur Airport

Location: Saidpur, Nilphamari

Initially, US-Bangla Airlines will offer 3 flights from Saidpur to Chattogram on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday (starting from 30th September 2021).

To make it more accessible and aesthetically sound, the airport is currently undergoing major upgrades and expansion. Soon it will open to international flight service to Nepal to strengthen trade and tourism between Nepal and Bangladesh.

Cox’s Bazar Airport

Location: Cox’s Bazar (1.5 km from Cox’s Bazar city)
Destination route: Chittagong-Dhaka-Sylhet-Cox’ Bazar
Airlines: Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Chittagong-Dhaka-Sylhet-Cox’s Bazar), Novoair (Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar), US-Bangla Airlines(Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar), Regent Airways(Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar)

In order to attract more tourists, Cox’s Bazar Airport is undergoing a massive development process to upgrade to an international airport. After completion, this will become the fourth international airport of Bangladesh.

There you have it. These are the five domestic airports in Bangladesh that are currently operating under the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh. Apart from these, there are two more airports located in Cumilla and Ishwardi. But they are used by the Bangladesh Air Force, Navy, and Army.

Although the pandemic had almost put a full stop to air travel, airports in Bangladesh adhered to strict safety measures to provide proper protection to the passengers once flight travel resumed last year. From mandatory web check-in, completely contactless security checks to proper markings on the seats at the Boarding Gates, airports in Bangladesh have ensured passenger safety at every stage so that passengers can enjoy their journey without the fear of getting infected.
