Electricity connection is one of the most basic needs of every citizen. From homes to offices and business purposes, electricity is a necessity that no one can go without. And as everything is online now-a-days, applying for electricity connection online has also become very easy. However, many people might still have some confusion about how to apply for an electricity connection online, especially during the pandemic. Some also don’t know how to efficiently use electricity as well.

There are quite a few distributors throughout the country who are diligently serving electricity needs. DESCO, DPDC, NESCO are some of the government organizations in this regard. The online application process is more or less same for every distributor but depending on the urgency and availability, few more steps in the process can be added. So in today’s blog, let’s take a look at the step by step process of how to apply for an electricity connection online in Bangladesh.

Step 1: 

First select the desired distributor from whom you want to get the connection from. Once decided, you go to their website and fill up the necessary information to proceed with the process. Most of the distributors require you to fill in information like, personal information, mailing address, connection address, description of connection. While filling the description address, you need to mention the connection type, phase, traffic category, demand load etc. And all your personal information must match the applicant’s  NID. 

Step 2: 

Next, you need to follow the guidelines of the distributor and attach required documents. The major documents that are needed to apply for electricity in this phase is attaching a copy of your National ID, your passport size photo which must be within 150 kb in jpg format. 

Step 3: 

After you have submitted all the required documents and filled in the information, wrap up the process by clicking the “Register” button. Once submitted, you will get an SMS from the distributor where you will get the confirmation of your application and your tracking number. With that  number, you can track the update of the process from their website. 

Step 4: 

In this step, from the distributor’s end you will get an SMS stating the survey schedule and a date will be selected for inspection. Upon receiving the notification, the inspection officer will visit the site for inspection. After the completion of the inspection, you will get an SMS of survey completion.

Step 5: 

Based on the inspection report, the head office will approve load survey information and generate connection payment slips. You will be notified within 1 day and get a payment confirmation via SMS. 

Step 6: 

Once you get the SMS, you need to pay the mentioned amount through online or offline banking according to your preference. Depending on the phase, you must clear the payment within 2-7 days after getting the SMS notification. 

Step 7: 

After receiving your payment successfully the meter allocation process will start. Meanwhile you will get a notification for meter allocation through SMS. 

Step 8: 

Once the electricity distributor finishes installing the meter, your electricity connection will be activated and through inserting the database you can pay your bill online every month. 

Applying for an electricity connection online is quite a hectic process and you need to maintain proper regulations to actually be eligible for getting the connection.
