DIY home decor projects are amazing. On top of that, how wonderful would it feel if you could actually incorporate them into events such as weddings, birthday parties or other occasional events? Yarns ball lights or string lanterns are one such project that you can use in events or as home decor items. Be it your balcony, living room or even bedroom, these string lanterns can liven up the entire vibe of the place.

Things that you will need:

-Large Balloons
-A marker
-Scissors
-Cotton Yarn
-4 oz. Glue (Fevicol)
-1/2 cup Corn Starch
-1/4 cup Water
-Something to stir with
-Petroleum Jelly
-Clear, Spray paint
-Container for mixing glue in
-String

Step 01: First of all, blow up a balloon. Inflate it until it is a decent round size. Don’t get too full otherwise, you’ll end up with an oblong-shaped lantern. Inflate different balloons in varied sizes.

Step 02: Now draw a circle around the knot of the balloon big enough to put whatever light source you would like to use.

Step 03: Find a way to suspend the balloons with string. You can use anything for that matter such as a rope between two chairs.

Step 04: Now mix the cornstarch, glue, and warm water together until the mixture is nice and smooth and apply the petroleum jelly all over the balloon until it is completely coated.

Step 05: Feed the yarn into the glue mixture. Now drape it around the balloon. If you have someone helping you, this will go a lot quicker.

Step 06: Start wrapping the yarn vertically and horizontally around the balloon at a comfortable tightness. Don’t forget to tuck your beginning and end part of the yarn under other parts of yarn.

Step 07: Let the balls dry for 24 hours and then pop the balloons. Forks or something similar can help remove any glue crystals that form between strings.

Step 08: Spray the ball with a fast-drying spray paint. Wear a mask to protect yourself.

Viola! You are done. Now hang your lanterns either from lights, from a string, or display them in a bowl!

Try to avoid the inside of your home, although you’re probably best off completing this project outside. You could use your balcony as you are stuck at home.

Be it your bathroom, bedroom or living room, maintaining the ambiance is one of the key factors when it comes to relaxation. Plenty of home decor items are available in the market to meet your necessities. You can always buy those, but if you want something more fun and interesting than picking stuff from the market, this project is for you.

Things that you will need:

– Several jars.
– Yarn or some sort of string.
– A can of spray paint.
– You’ll also need something to cover whatever surface you’ll be spraying on.

Step 01: Soak all your jars in water to get rid of the tags and glue residue and clean them with soap otherwise the paint won’t stick.

Step 02: Wrap the string around the jar tightly and tie a knot. Now wrap the string around the rest of the jar tightly. Criss-cross and overlap until you are happy with the design. Then just tie the end to the leftover string where you started and cut.

Step 03: Now place the jar onto the covered surface upside down. Spray paint the jars evenly with 2-3 coats. Wait for 10-15 minutes between coats. Let it dry completely. Once dried cut the string from one place and slowly unwrap.

And you are done. Now you can place lights or candles inside. The effects that these jars yield are lovely. You can also wrap some twine around the base of the jar for some effect.
