Independence, to me, is personal freedom. What I mean to say is that it is the freedom to live life as I see fit, without interference from others. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” I wholeheartedly agree with him. Just being independent isn’t enough, you will also need to have the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. That is my definition of independence in life. And in many different aspects of life, we are getting more freedom. Let’s have a look at what they are.

Independence Of Self

Make freedom your own!

Independence in life starts with personal independence. Sit back and think, of the freedoms that life has given us and how we’ve utilized them. This country has given you the freedom to blossom into the person that you’ve always desired to be. This is where women have broken into professions dominated by men, and men have started to shine in professions generally thought to be reserved for women. This results in gender not being a barrier to the heights that you can reach. We have the absolute freedom to choose our careers. From fulfilling dreams to creating something new, we find freedom in doing something new! Where to live? Who to hang out with? It’s all up to us. We don’t answer to anybody else. This is what self independence is.

Independence At Home

Choose your own home

Independence at home isn’t just about how you’re living at home. It signifies the freedom that we have inside our homes. Freedom to do anything, without anyone judging your every action. It is also the freedom to leave our homes whenever we want. The freedom to come in late to home. The freedom to move out of home, to say goodbye to living with your loved ones and moving to convenient locations closer to your workplace. Before, these freedoms were very much hard to find, but times have changed. The definition of independence in life has changed with time, especially with matters regarding our homes. Now, we have the freedom to move out of our comfortable cocoons, protected by our family, and start life anew!

Independence At Work

Have a career of your choice

Traditional workplace culture has been disrupted by the rise of startups and freelancing. These fields have introduced newfound freedoms into formerly rigid work schedules. Starting from flexible timings to working from home, the possibilities are endless now. And freelancers are able to dictate their own routines, working according to their own schedules. They also don’t have to face the hassle of commuting to an office, saving time and money. Even with places that have a more rigid culture, leeway is there to choose shifts in many places. And if you’re looking for independence from work, you can create your own startup! All in all, the workplace is another place where we can exercise our newfound independence in life.

Independence To Do Something New

Chase your dreams!

Nowadays, we are blessed with the freedom of thought. The freedom to do something new, unique, unheard of. This is true freedom. Independence to do something new. Old rules that limited our potential have been broken, with a new school of thought coming in its place. This allows us to innovate collectively. Starting from cooking for lunch today to the expression of our thoughts and opinions, we have freedom in everything. We’re experiencing something new every day. This is the new normal. Independence means something different to each individual. But the experience for everyone is the same.
