Rainy season means it rains all day long. There is going to be continuous rainfall. In this season the insides of the house feel rainy similar to the weather outside. Due to the damp walls, the suffocating feeling, the foul smell, a kind of uncomfortable environment is created inside the house. And so to get rid of such a situation extra care of the house was needed. If you take some necessary steps to protect the house from the rain, the house will be clean. Our blog today discusses the details of what to do to for keeping the house safe in the rainy season.

On rainy days, we need to make sure that the inside of the house is not as wet or damp as the outside. Instead of using carpets on the floor at this time, save the carpets for later use. One should never dry wet clothes under a fan indoors during the rainy season. This causes moisture to accumulate in the house, which makes the inside of the house damper. Since the infestation of insects increases during the rainy season, carbolic acid can be applied regularly in certain places of the house. Especially in kitchens and bathrooms where there are pipes or holes in places.

Dark stains all over the walls

During the rainy season, the surroundings become much more humid. This dampness due to incessant rain creates a stench. The constant rain, humidity, and wetness around results in the emergence of these strange odors. At times like these, the colors of the walls start to fade and dark stains appear over them. A strange smell emanates from that place. What you can do in such a situation is to carefully remove the dark parts of the walls with a mixture of bleach and water. In this case, bleach will act not only as a cleanser but also as a disinfectant. Which will act as a deterrent for the growth of the dark spots.

Taking care of wooden doors and windows

Wooden doors and windows often swell up during the rainy season. This is mainly due to the increase in the amount of moisture in the air. Because of the humid weather and incessant rain, the woods stay swollen for a long period of time. To make sure that this doesn’t happen you can apply oil on both sides of the wood. Also, you can use sandpaper to rub off the swollen part of the wood. By doing this the part which prevented the door from opening and closing gets removed. On the other hand, metal frame doors or windows rust easily due to moisture. An easy way to get rid of rust is to paint the door regularly. As a result, you will be keeping your house safe in the rain.

Repair cracks

If there are cracks or holes in the roof, walls, or any pipeline of the house, then it needs to be repaired properly before the rainy season. Because water leaking from different parts of the house is enough to damage the inside and outside of the house. And so it is very important to identify the places with leaks or holes, replacing the pipes in that place, fixing the broken parts, and putting on a layer of cement on those places. Then use waterproof paint so that the water can’t come and cause any more damage. This will keep the house safe in the rainy season.

Repairing door-window panels

It is often seen that there is a gap under the door of the house or water overflows and enters the room by the window panel. In this case, curved, defective, or broken panels can be the cause of this problem. So the panels should be repaired in time to see if the window and door locks work properly. If necessary, window panels should be cleaned regularly so that the rainwater doesn’t enter the house in another way because of dust.

Steps of taking care and repairing

Due to heavy rains in the monsoon season, the walls, as well as the roof and floor of the house, are likely to stay damp. This causes erosion in different parts of the house. Since the matter is very serious, it is very important to repair the defective parts of the house before the coming of monsoon. Also, the water accumulated on the roof and sunshade during rainfall of the house should be cleaned regularly. Otherwise, the amount of damage to the roof of the house will increase further.

In addition, there are other things to keep in mind to prevent rain damage to the house:

  • The doors and windows of the house should be kept a little bit open and not be completely closed because of the rain so that the house does not feel stuffy. We should also make sure that enough light and air pass through the kitchen and bathroom.
  • Furniture should be kept at least 10 to 15 cm away from the wall so that the wetness of the wall does not damage them.
  • Since insects attack wooden furniture more in the rainy season, insect-killing chalk, powder, or naphthalene should be applied.

We need to be aware beforehand so that the rainwater can not harm the house and it is kept safe during the rainy season. Otherwise, there will be a lot of inconvenience throughout the rainy season.
