While Motijheel has traditionally been the seat of commerce in Dhaka, Gulshan and Banani recently emerged as crucial economy zones. Both local and multinational companies vie to open up offices in those areas. Many organizations have established their HQs or corporate offices in these areas. Thousands of people each day commute here, conduct businesses and make important financial decisions in these institutions. Commercial spaces, as well as flats in Banani and Gulshan, are some of the most lucrative pieces of real estate in Dhaka today.

There’s also Tejgaon in North Dhaka; the only designated industrial zone in Dhaka. There are many factories, garments, and government organizations in the area. None so more than Mirpur and Uttara; both of which are some of the most accessible areas in Dhaka. This connectedness brings along with it swift movement to almost any place in the city. Living in Dhaka North is made easier thanks to the massive number of public buses and other vehicles available. All of these transports either operate or travel the northern part of the city.

The only Airport of Dhaka is located near Uttara, beside Bishwa Road. Frequent travelers by air prefer to live in nearby areas to avoid traffic congestion. On the opposite side of the road lies the only other train terminal of Dhaka apart from Kamlapur train station. All trains traveling to and from Dhaka stop at this terminal to drop off and take on passengers. Or, if bus is someone’s preferred mode of transportation, they can always begin their journey from Mohakhali or Gabtoli. The buses there travel to the north-east and north-west parts of the country.

Some of the major residential areas in Dhaka are located in this area. The first planned residential area, Mohammadpur, is located in North Dhaka. Banasree is a well-known destination for finding affordable housing; so are Mirpur and Uttara. Homes of all shapes and sizes are available here. People on a tight price range often look for apartments in Mirpur, Banasree or Uttara. These areas have plenty of apartments for rent and sale. People moving up in the world begin their new chapter of life in Dhaka North with a home in these parts. Bashundhara, Baridhara, and Niketan are quickly becoming favorite residential areas for people that want a certain level of amenities from their place of residents. Another such area that is quickly garnering a reputation as an opulent area in Uttara.

Banani is a great example of this. The presence of numerous popular restaurants in Banani allows residents to choose one that suits their tastes. Even residential areas such as Bashundhara and Banasree have designated locations for shopping centers, convention halls and such. Uttara is totally self-sufficient and a mini-city within Dhaka. Thanks to the convenience of having every amenity close at hand, residents don’t have to leave the vicinity for anything.

Living in Dhaka North is very pleasant thanks to plenty of recreational places. Amusement parks, public parks, historical landmarks, museums, and fields fill the entire part of the city. In Mirpur alone, there’s the National Botanical Garden, Liberation War Museum and many other places to visit over the weekend. Dhaka Sishu Mela in Shyamoli is still one of the most popular places for children to visit.
