Reading Time: 5 minutes

The recent coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the complete lockdown of most major regions in affected countries across the world. This was done to curb the spread of COVID-19, which is the respiratory disease caused by the virus. As a result, most of us living in countries affected by the disease have had to stay at home for quite a while. Living in home quarantine doesn’t seem bad at first but boredom hits you fast. Not being able to meet friends, grab a bite at your favorite restaurants, or partaking in various outdoor activities can do that to you.

However, the extra time that you’re getting by staying at home can also be a blessing in disguise. It will allow you to do the things that you’ve always wanted to do but never got the time for. Staying at home can also be a great time to learn new skills. Most importantly, it will give you quality time with the people that you love the most – your family. So, let’s have a look at the ways that you can make #StayAtHome meaningful!

DO THE THINGS THAT YOU LOVE

Read your favorite novel

Normally, most of us live a hectic life with busy schedules. The current situation offers us a golden opportunity to rediscover ourselves through our favorite hobbies and pastimes. You could watch movies that you were putting off for later, or binge-watch your favorite TV shows. It’s also the perfect time to crack open a book! The feeling of getting lost in an enthralling novel is incomparable to anything else.

Those with a creative side can nurture their creativity by putting it into practice. Artists can paint their imagination onto a blank canvas. Musicians can play their favorite tunes or create new ones. Those who love to write can start work on writing something new; it could be poetry, a story, or even the start of a new book. Such free time is very rare. So let’s make the most of this and make #StayAtHome meaningful!

Learn new skills

There are so many skills that we wish to learn but can’t because of a lack of free time. Well, now’s the time! And you’ve got the most abundant resource for learning right at your fingertips – the internet. There are countless websites offering courses on every topic imaginable, starting from social skills and going all the way to quantum physics! Many top universities all around the world are also offering free courses that are open to everyone. You could also pull out old ‘how-to’ books and cookbooks and use them to learn new skills!

Now that we’ve talked about how you can learn these new skills, let’s look at some of the things that you can learn. Aspiring chefs can try out new recipes from the internet and whip up tasty meals for the whole family. This is also the perfect time to brush up on skills necessary in your career, such as Microsoft Office skills. Most of us also have had a curiosity regarding programming and web development. This is the perfect time to start learning those skills. Who knows, you could end up with your own website at the end of this quarantine! Let’s learn new skills and make #StayAtHome meaningful.

HELPING WITH HOUSEHOLD CHORES

Help with chores

When you’re at our offices, work at your household isn’t paused. It keeps going. Your family works hard to look after your home. This is the moment where you can ease the pressure on them by helping out with some of the chores. Those who cook can contribute to cooking meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most of us spend much of the time that we have outside of our homes. This leaves our rooms neglected. Why not rearrange your room and clean up all the things that are cluttering your room? This is the perfect time to do that.

There are many other chores that family members can divide between themselves to achieve maximum efficiency. For example, washing our clothes. If one person is to do that, it would be a huge burden on them. But if each of us washed our own clothes, it would be less of a hassle. The same goes for washing dishes, making our beds, and many other chores. Doing these things will also make you appreciate the people who do it for you when you’re not at home. Help around with household chores and make #StayAtHome meaningful.

SPENDING TIME WITH FAMILY

Play with your children

There’s nothing more valuable than spending time with the people that you love the most – your family! But our hectic schedule makes it very difficult to give them the time that they deserve. Staying at home provides the perfect opportunity to spend time with members of your family, especially your children, who are the ones who need you the most. You can sit down for playtime with them. Or maybe you could tell them stories of the adventures that you had when you were their age. Maybe teach them a new skill, like chess? Remember, our children are precious and they deserve love, care and nurturing.

This is also the perfect time to revisit the old days when families used to do more things together. Playing ludo with our siblings was not just a pastime for us. It resulted in heated rivalries during games. You could pull out board games from the cabinet and play with your family. Sing-alongs are also another fun activity that we did when we were younger. Why not do that with your family? Sitting together in the living room to watch a fantastic movie is another way you can spend time with your family. Don’t forget the snacks! Spend time with your family and make #StayAtHome meaningful.

All in all, staying at home might seem boring at first but it could be a blessing in disguise. When you make the most of staying at home, you recover lost time. This is the time to rediscover yourself through doing what you love – reconnect with your family by spending time with yourself, and to realize the untapped potential within you by learning new things. Let’s make #StayAtHome meaningful!
