Two Eids a year! We have Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha. And among them, Eid ul-Adha, or Qurbani Eid, is an incredibly busy time. The house is full of guests and the kitchen, meat. No matter how you work, somehow the house becomes a complete mess. Your kitchen is probably ready by now, as it should! After all, a lot goes on in the kitchen during Qurbani Eid, from dividing up Qurbani meat to storing it in the refrigerator. However, cleaning the kitchen isn’t enough during your post Eid cleaning; other rooms need your attention too. Post Eid cleaning is an important step in getting your life back on track after a busy few days. So once the rush is over, pick up the cleaning materials and begin tidying things up one by one. Let’s see how you can do just that!

Clean the kitchen carefully

Dividing up Qurbani meat requires the use of a lot of bowls and utensils, and all of them require a thorough cleaning using the dishwashing liquid. Fat and blood from the meat seep onto these bowls and utensils during the meat cutting process. After a while, if left as it is, they start to smell. That is why use hot water and dishwashing liquid to clean these items. Include the knives and cleavers used during Qurbani as well. But remember to wipe all the water off of them properly. Even a little bit of water will cause rust.

Refrigerator

fridges
Don’t put too much stress on your fridge

The next stop during your post Eid cleaning bonanza should be the refrigerator. Once we are done dividing and cleaning up the meat, it’s stored in the fridge. Due to the excessive amount of meat and shortage of time, we just store them anyway we can without thinking too much. We don’t even think about how much damage it can cause to the fridge. So once the Eid rush is over, it’s time to take out all the meat, clean the inside of the refrigerator properly, and then store them again. But this time, slowly and carefully, so as to no amount of blood or water remains. Otherwise, the inside of the fridge will start to smell really bad.

Bedroom and Living Room

The living room and the bedroom are usually people hangout

Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha; it’s normal to get more than usual guests during these two days. The presence of tea and snacks seem to stretch out the chats and stories for hours. Everyone wants to forget their busy life and spend a few hours with their loved ones on these two days. Most of the times, these hangouts usually take place at home. Inviting people and relatives over or going over to their place is a long-standing tradition in Bangladesh. That is why we need to clean up the living room and the bedrooms, the usual suspects of Eid hangout, after the occasion. Take the bedsheets, curtains, sofa covers, and cushions to the washer, a few times if necessary to get tough stains out. Once they are squeaky clean and smell of roses, you can begin using them again.

Livestock Quarters

It takes a lot of effort to clean the livestock quarters

Even though we are writing it last, cleaning the livestock quarters is probably one of the most important steps in your post Eid cleaning bonanza. Whether it’s in your building or in the street, it’s your responsibility to clean up the quarters. Even cleaning the spot where you will sacrifice the livestock(s) is your responsibility too. If you keep livestock in a single place for a few days, it is bound to get dirty due to their excrement. While we tolerate the smell coming from the spot during Eid, it needs to be cleaned quickly once the festivities are done. We also need to dump all the blood and other items in a proper place where the cleaning truck can easily reach them. If you live in a rural area, you can also put them underground by digging a hole.

Cleaning up your home after Qurbani Eid will relieve you from a lot of worries; doing this will also help you get back to your usual life. So use the tips we mentioned above and begin cleaning once Eid is over!
