Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s been a while since the entire world has seen something this disastrous. The pandemic called Covid-19 has led all the major regions of the affected countries into a complete lockdown state. Since the cure for this life-threatening disease is yet to reach the shelves of pharmacies, all the affected countries are undergoing some strong measures to help prevent the spread of the disease. In Bangladesh, the government has decided to close all the educational institutions, offices and supermarkets to impose social distancing across the country. But what if you ran out of groceries? You can’t starve until the corona disaster ends. So a little know-how is necessary if you wanna go out shopping for groceries in Dhaka.

Lack of Social Distancing

Despite imposing rules, people are reluctant about maintaining social distance

Although the government has imposed certain guidelines on social distancing, people are found showing little or no concern about that fact. As a result, it is getting tougher to prevent the spread of coronavirus. And this situation is really critical in most kitchen markets in Dhaka. People are found reluctant about maintaining social distance. Although most of them are seen all masked up, they are also seen crowding in front of shops without maintaining the required distance of 1 meter. So expect to see the flouting behavior of people and be careful if you do go out shopping for groceries in Dhaka.

Hygiene Maintenance

hygiene upkeep is a big issue in local shops and bazaars

Another important aspect like hygiene upkeep is also not taken seriously by most grocery storekeepers. People are seen coughing and sneezing without proper protections and are moving around and shopping as usual. Most bazaars have no signs reminding people how to ensure proper hygiene in this crucial time. Although some shops are seen to be taking some precautionary steps, those will be of no use without the active participation of people. So make sure you take all the necessary steps to ensure proper hygiene before stepping out towards the market.

Limited Stock and Price Bump

In a recent press briefing, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had stated that there is enough food supply so there is no need to stock up food amid the coronavirus crisis. But by then, the panic has already set in and spread across the markets in Dhaka, especially after the first death was reported. People are seen to have resorted to purchasing a month’s worth of food in fear. Which in turn has caused a shortage in the market and has resulted in the price hikes of different staple foods, including rice. Don’t be surprised if you experience any shortage in stock or a slight hike in price.

Unavailability of Shops

The outbreak may affect the timing as most shops tend to close earlier than usual

As the lockdown continues, people are getting accustomed to spending more time in their homes. This applies to everyone, regardless of their occupations. Shopkeepers are no different. So there will be some unavailability of shops during the crisis. Also, it may affect the timing as most shops tend to close earlier than usual. In effect, some markets may not be open at the time they were previously seen to be crowded. So if you are planning to go shopping for groceries in Dhaka, make sure to go there by the morning.

The Government of Bangladesh is urging the citizens of the country to stay at home to help prevent the spreading of COVID-19. However, during this period, online grocers can save you from the unwanted hazards of going outside and looking for shops. So use the aid of online shops to ease your hassles while staying safe at home.
