When the Dhaka city corporation was dissolved by the local government amendment bill on 29 November 2011, it made way for two new municipal corporations in Dhaka. The Dhaka North City Corporation and the Dhaka South City Corporation. DNCC or Dhaka North City Corporation is an autonomous body that governs 54 northern wards of Dhaka. These wards and areas of DNCC also cover the thanas of Turag, West Uttara, East Uttara, Uttarkhan, Dakshin Khan, Bimanbandar, Khilkhet, Vatara, Badda, Rampura, Hatirjheel, Shilpanchal, Tejgaon, Sher-E-Bangla nagar, Mohammadpur, Adabor, Darussalam, Mirpur, Pallabi, Rupnagar, Shahali, Kafrul, Bhashantek, Cantonment, Banani and Gulshan.
There are many reasons why many people prefer to live in Dhaka North. Some of the best-planned neighborhoods in Dhaka are located in DNCC. Dhaka North also offers some of the most value-for-money areas in the capital.
However, for an average citizen, it may be difficult to be aware of all the wards and areas of DNCC that fall under these 54 wards. Whereas it might be necessary for multiple occasions to know which area falls under which corporation.
