The definition of a perfect day may vary from person to person but not the day itself. People love to spend their spare time to their liking so differences are to be expected. But that is not the point, the point is if you were to be given a day to yourself, free from all the buzz and activity, how would you spend it? We know that you have millions of ways to spend the day but how about a day amidst a Golap Gram (village of roses)? Trust me this is exactly what it sounds like; a village full of roses. Now if I ask you to guess people’s primary source of the income who live there, it wouldn’t be that hard to answer.
They turned the entire Golap Gram into a gigantic garden. You will never see anything like this in the city. So if you want to experience nature in its purest form and have a perfect day with roses, this place is what you should aim for.
Where and how to get there
Shadullapur is situated in a union of Savar called Birulia. Distancing only 25 KM from the city, it is not at all too far. You can get back before dusk. Now there are multiple ways you can embark on this journey to get to Golap Gram. The fastest and safest way is to hire a CNG or go by bus (but this is also the dullest). Just take a bus to Savar bus stand and then take a minibus till Birulia bazar and you are there. Now you can walk or take a rickshaw if you want to explore the village.
If you want variations on the journey we recommend, go by boat. To do that you have to go to Mirpur-1 beribadh first, then you can take a bus or rickshaw to the boat counter. Whatever suits you will do the trick.
It won’t take long to reach Shadullapur by boat. On the way to Shadullapur the surroundings will amaze you. One by one you will pass by the Shampur village, the Komlapur village, and then your gaze will be stuck on the kingdom of crimson at the Bagghibari village. Like an unbroken panorama, this will hold you captive. The magnitude of Golap Gram’s sheer beauty is beyond comprehension. You can picture it out in the theater of your mind but the aesthetic beauty of the place will still be superior in comparison.
Into the Kingdom of Crimson Roses
You may end up arriving at Shadullapur at noon or in the afternoon but don’t worry; all the things worth celebrating happen in the afternoon. That said, the roses usually blossom in the afternoon so you don’t miss anything.
Now about the Golap Gram. There is a market that you will see prior to entering the village. If you are hungry, this is where you will find food for your tummy. But don’t keep your expectations high. This might not be the extravagant cuisines that you are accustomed to but they certainly will be the freshest.
We are now all set to explore the village. As you walk towards the village through the snaky road made of clay, the first thing that you will notice is the smell. This is the earth in its purest form. The raw smell of nature will surely give you something different from those of solid metal and concrete that you are used to. Just a bit farther ahead and you will find yourself amidst the biggest rose garden you have ever seen. Ok, maybe not the biggest but surely the most vibrant. There are isles everywhere so you can literally walk through the field and explore more. Then you will see the most spectacular view; you will see tiny rosebuds blooming into mature flowers. If you have not had this experience, you are missing out.
As mentioned before, almost 90% of all the villagers here make their livelihood from selling roses. The kind that they cultivate normally is called Miranda. But you will see other flowers like gladiolus, gerbera, etc. If you want, you can buy some for your loved ones or for yourself.
Since roses blossom in the afternoon, farmers pluck and sell them around the same time. There are three markets surrounding Shadullapur, so the selling and buying go on all night. Normally the demand tends to soar from January to February but it depends on the market actually. If there is an apparent surge in demand, a hike in price will follow. This is the cycle, this is how they whirl the wheel.
On the Way Back
Spending enough time amid the crimson garden can develop an attachment to Golap Gram. That is what is expected and is perfectly fine. But most of us live corporate lives so we can’t just ignore the summoning. We have to get back on track to keep ourselves moving.
So take any of the specified routes that we mentioned earlier but on the way back. But if you want to have a thrilling experience, take a boat.
