When talking about the most beautiful mountain ranges, you cannot have any conversation without mentioning the Himalayas. The story of the Himalayas began about 70 million years ago when the Indo-Australian tectonic plate collided with the Eurasian plate. This major event resulted in the creation of a mountain range that we know today as the Himalayas. It is a long mountain range that spans eight countries in South and Central Asia. The Himalayas are also home to ten of the fourteen eight-thousand-meter mountains in the world. This list includes Mount Everest, which is the tallest mountain in the world, standing at 8,848 meters. The Himalayas are a very popular tourist attraction, with many skiing resorts being built around it. Most importantly, it is a favorite for mountaineers across the world, being home to some of the most challenging ascents in the world.

Andes

The Andes Mountains are a mountain range that spans the entire western edge of South America. It is the longest mountain range in the world, spanning a distance of around 7,000 kilometers. The range is also part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is a major zone of volcanic activity encompassing the Pacific Rim of both the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region. The Andes goes through seven countries in South America – Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. In the Argentine part of the Andes, you will find Aconcagua, which is the highest mountain outside of Asia, with a summit reaching 6,960 meters. Compared to most other mountain ranges, the Andes is a lot more populated, with many major cities located in and around the mountain range, including Bogota, Santiago, Medellin, and Lima.

The Alaska Range is a very short, narrow mountain range located in the US State of Alaska. Its location in southcentral Alaska has resulted in the range being located in a very isolated, sparsely populated region of the United States. But what makes this range very special is a beautiful mountain called Denali. It is the tallest mountain in North America. The local Koyukon people call this mountain ‘Denali’, but when a gold prospector came to visit the mountain in 1896, he named it Mount McKinley after a US presidential candidate at that time, William McKinley. It was known by this name up till 2015 when the Federal government recognized the mountain as Denali. Being home to the tallest mountain in the United States and North America, many mountain climbers visit the Alaska Ranges frequently.

After the Himalayas, The Alps are one of the most recognizable and most beautiful mountain ranges in the world. It is synonymous with all things that make you think of Europe – beautiful mountains and luxury ski resorts. The Alps is a 1,200 kilometer mountain range that goes through eight alpine countries in southern, central, and eastern Europe. Two of the most iconic mountains in the Alps are Mont Blanc, located at the French-Italian border, and the Matterhorn at the Swiss-Italian border. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with over 120 million visitors each year. The Alps is home to many ski resorts and plays host to some of the most prestigious winter sports events in the world.

The Rocky Mountains, affectionately known as the ‘Rockies’, is a mountain range located on the western side of North America. Stretching from Canada to New Mexico, the Rockies are one of the longest mountain ranges in the world, covering 3,000 kilometers. Mount Elbert, located in the US state of Colorado, is the tallest mountain in this range. The Rockies have been the home of the first indigenous peoples of North America, as well as the giant mammoths of the ice ages. This mountain range also has significant economical importance, with an abundance of natural resources such as minerals and fossil fuels. It also has some very beautiful lakes, ski resorts, and many national parks, which brings a lot of tourists both in summer and winter.
